In 2024, Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey, spent $2,325,940 on its men’s basketball programs, which is $1,308,685 above the state average of $1,017,255, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This amount accounted for 27.2% of the university’s total athletic expenditures for the year 2024.

Since 2010, the overall sports expenses at Saint Peter’s University have increased by 32%.

Basketball is one of the most popular college sports in the United States alongside football, with major NCAA programs drawing fan support and television audiences that can rival those of the NBA. Tournaments such as March Madness attract millions of viewers each year.

College athletics has entered a new era of athlete compensation after a federal settlement allowed schools to directly share revenue with players for the first time.
