Rep. Rob Menendez, U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 8th district since 2023, used his social media platform on November 4, 2025, to criticize the handling of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and to announce an upcoming community event.
In a post made at 20:07 UTC on November 4, Menendez stated, “We also have an ‘obligatory tradition’ of sending out SNAP benefits on time and in full, but clearly Trump and Republicans don’t care about that – or the well-being of Americans – anymore.”
Later that evening at 21:20 UTC, he invited constituents to participate in a public discussion regarding SNAP. He wrote, ” Join my colleagues and me for a Telephone Town Hall on Wednesday, November 5th at 5:00PM to give an update on SNAP and what’s at stake for our NJ communities. Your voice matters in this fight. Join by calling (855) 821-1685.”
At 21:52 UTC the same day, Menendez posted another statement addressing concerns over federal administration actions related to food assistance programs. He said, “Unconscionable. The President is ignoring court orders while using hunger for political gain. The Administration must obey the law and promptly issue SNAP benefits to ensure American families are able to have food on their table.”
Rob Menendez has served as the representative for New Jersey’s 8th District since succeeding Albio Sires in 2023. Born in Hudson County in 1985 and currently residing in Jersey City, Menendez holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Rutgers University-Newark.
SNAP is a federal program providing food-purchasing assistance for low- and no-income people living in the United States. Delays or disruptions in benefit distribution can impact millions of households nationwide.
