Rep. Rob Menendez, U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 8th district since 2023, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts addressing the potential government shutdown and other current political issues.
On September 30, 2025, Menendez warned about the imminent threat of a government shutdown, writing: “In a few hours, the government could shut down. And instead of working to prevent it, Trump is in a room with our top generals — threatening America’s cities.
@HouseDemocrats are here in DC ready to work, ready to protect our communities, and ready to put people first.”
Later that evening, he placed responsibility for any negative outcomes from the shutdown on the Republican Party. On September 30, 2025, he stated: “The Republican Party will be responsible for any harm that this shutdown causes. Full stop.
@HouseDemocrats are committed to making government work for you – the American people – by lowering costs and making healthcare more accessible. That’s what this fight is about. “
The following day, October 1, 2025, Menendez commented on federal funding decisions affecting infrastructure projects in his region: “My statement on the Trump Administration’s decision to withhold funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project:”
Rob Menendez was born in Hudson County, New Jersey in 1985 and currently resides in Jersey City. He succeeded Albio Sires as representative of New Jersey’s 8th District after being elected in 2022 and taking office in January 2023. Menendez holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2008) and a JD from Rutgers University-Newark (2011).
