Rep. Rob Menendez, who represents New Jersey’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account regarding his office’s activities and ongoing concerns about immigration enforcement and local detention facilities.
On May 10, Menendez publicly thanked his spring interns for their contributions, stating: “Thank you to our amazing interns for all their hard work this spring! Their commitment to public service helps us better serve our community. Wishing them the best of luck in their future endeavors!”
The following day, Menendez addressed issues related to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. On May 11, he wrote: “ICE’s secret flights keep families in the dark and block our casework teams from giving our constituents the help they need. We are demanding the FAA work with Congress to bring these ‘ghost flights’ into the light and ensure every flight meets the basic safety and humanitarian”.
Later that same day, Menendez provided an update on conditions at Delaney Hall, a facility in his district. He stated: “Update: Back at Delaney Hall this morning with @RepNellie to meet with constituents and follow up on health services at the facility from our last visit. No improvements—only more heartbreaking stories. We need to keep the pressure on to close this facility – for good.”
Rob Menendez has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding Albio Sires as representative of New Jersey’s 8th District. Born in Hudson County in 1985, Menendez is currently 37 years old and resides in Jersey City. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2008) and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University-Newark (2011).
