On February 5, 2025, Rep. Menendez emphasized the importance of balancing energy dominance with environmental justice during an Energy Commerce hearing. He stated, “During today’s @EnergyCommerce hearing, I made it clear that energy dominance cannot come at the expense of communities that have faced environmental injustice for far too long.” Menendez underscored the need to support communities like Elizabeth and Newark’s Ironbound.
The following day, February 6, 2025, he expressed solidarity with federal employees in a tweet, stating: “Federal workers keep our nation running and an attack on them is an attack on the services that Americans rely on every day.” He criticized efforts by the Trump Administration to undermine civil servants’ work.
Later that same day, Menendez addressed concerns over a proposed federal funding freeze at another Energy Commerce hearing. He argued against President Trump’s claims regarding affordability: “President Trump claims to be for affordability, but this pause will drive costs up instead of lowering them,” suggesting such measures would negatively impact Americans financially.
