Rep. Rob Menendez, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 8th district since 2023, used his social media platform on May 29, 2026, to criticize conditions at Delaney Hall and recent federal policy proposals.
In a post made early in the morning, Menendez stated, “Tonight, I returned to Delaney Hall after reports of four people being taken to the hospital following an incident inside the facility. What is going on at Delaney is a stain on our country and this Administration. This is not who we are as Americans. Our fight will only end” (May 29, 2026).
Later that day, he addressed transportation policy by writing, “Secretary Mullin’s plan to halt international flights at Newark is one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard and will hurt our economy. Yet, this Administration never ceases to amaze me with how far they will go to manufacture chaos and spin lies to the American people.” (May 29, 2026).
By evening, Menendez reiterated his commitment regarding Delaney Hall: “We will never stop showing up, and we will never stop telling the stories of the people being detained at Delaney Hall – until we shut it down for good.” (May 29, 2026).
Rob Menendez succeeded Albio Sires in Congress in 2023 and has served as a representative for New Jersey’s 8th District since then. Born in Hudson County in 1985 and currently residing in Jersey City, Menendez holds degrees from both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BA) and Rutgers University-Newark (JD).
