Rep. Rob Menendez, who has represented New Jersey’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, posted a series of tweets on January 13 and 14, 2026, criticizing aspects of the Trump Administration’s policies regarding Venezuela, the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

On January 13, Menendez commented on what he characterized as efforts to defend Trump Administration policy toward Venezuela: “When you’re spinning as hard as you can for the Trump Administration on Venezuela and you forget what you’re talking about. https://t.co/eVQBfH9Rzx”.

Later that day, he questioned staffing priorities at the DOE in relation to domestic energy costs: “So the DOE has enough staff to run Venezuela but not enough staff to lower your electric bills?! https://t.co/9OsrCSF667”.

In a tweet posted just after midnight on January 14, Menendez addressed an investigation by the DOJ involving Jerome Powell: “The DOJ is prioritizing a sham investigation of Jerome Powell solely because he refused to bend to political pressure from Trump over investigating the killing of an American citizen by an ICE agent in broad daylight.

Trump’s agenda has always been about retribution – not about https://t.co/i5wh2Lh98X“.

Rob Menendez was born in Hudson County, New Jersey in 1985 and currently resides in Jersey City. He holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a JD from Rutgers University-Newark. Menendez succeeded Albio Sires as representative for New Jersey’s 8th district beginning in 2023.
