Rep. Rob Menendez, who has represented New Jersey’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, addressed political developments and community observances in a series of posts on October 1 and 2, 2025.
On October 1, Menendez commented on the ongoing government shutdown, stating: “Picked the wrong state to mess with on day one of your shutdown. NJ Democrats sent a clear message today. NJ Republicans remain silent while the Administration continues to harm our state.”
Later that evening, he acknowledged Yom Kippur with a message to those observing: “Wishing all those observing Yom Kippur an easy and meaningful fast. May this be a blessed time of reflection and renewal. G’mar Chatima Tova!”
On October 2, Menendez addressed Republican control of federal government branches by posting: “No surprise here considering Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House…”
Rob Menendez succeeded Albio Sires as representative for New Jersey’s 8th district in January 2023. Born in Hudson County in 1985 and currently residing in Jersey City, Menendez holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BA) and Rutgers University-Newark (JD).
