Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. introduced a resolution on June 9 to declare June 12-18, 2023, as National Men’s Health Awareness Week.  The bipartisan measure requests President Biden to issue “a proclamation to call on Americans and interested groups to observe National Men’s Health Week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”  Rep. Payne, Jr. is the chairman of the Congressional Men’s Health Caucus.

“Too many men are suffering and dying needlessly because they don’t take their health and wellness seriously,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “Men tend to put off regular physicals and health screenings because they feel healthy.  But these delays could turn a minor health issue into a major one.  This lack of action is one reason men live six years less than women.  Also, men die from heart disease, cancer and other leading causes of death at far greater rates than women.  I am proud to introduce this resolution because we have to encourage more men to get regular screenings for health issues to avoid life-threatening diseases.”
