The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women’s wrestling team participated in the DIII National Invite at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, on February 7–8. The team finished 20th out of 31 teams, earning a total of 13 points.

Rookie Tehana Savory led NJCU with a 2-2 record at 160 pounds. She began her tournament with a quick fall in just over a minute while leading 6-0 in the opening round of the championship bracket. After losing her second match, she secured a close win by decision in the consolation bracket before forfeiting her final bout.

Junior Fabiana Josa also recorded two wins and two losses. She started with a pin while ahead on points, dropped her next match, then won by decision in the consolation bracket before being eliminated.

Sophomore Nuria Kojic achieved one win and two losses during the event. Her highlight came from securing a pin after trailing in the second round of consolations.

Freshman Natalie Lozano earned one victory—a decision—in her three matches at the invite.

At 103 pounds, freshman Marielys Lugo Fernandez notched one win via pin during her three matches.

Freshman Aracelli Rodriguez competed for NJCU but was defeated in both matches during her first appearance at a national invite.

NJCU’s next competition is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, when they travel to Centenary University for the Garden State Collegiate Duals. Felician will also participate as NJCU seeks consecutive titles.
