NJCU women’s volleyball falls to Ramapo College in straight sets

The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women’s volleyball team lost to Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The final score was 3-0, with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 26-24.

NJCU now holds a record of 10 wins and 2 losses overall, and is 1-1 in NJAC play. The team recorded a hitting percentage of .072 with 33 kills and collected 10 service aces during the match. Kai Fitzpatrick led NJCU with a match-high of 18 kills and contributed four service aces. Diane Pugay added six kills, while Kiley Jurcisin had two kills. Rae Marrero managed the offense with 27 assists and nine digs, while Elisabeth Brito led the defense with twelve digs. Brianna Melanson made two total blocks for NJCU.

Ramapo improved its record to ten wins and three losses overall, remaining undefeated in conference play at 2-0. The Roadrunners hit .221 as a team and also posted 33 kills. Valentina Palen led Ramapo with fourteen kills; Asya Akar contributed eleven kills; Katie Bishop provided twenty-eight assists; Emma Garcia recorded seventeen digs.

The first set was close until Ramapo used a late run to secure it at 25-21. In the second set, Ramapo built an early lead that NJCU tried to overcome but ultimately fell short by the same margin. The third set extended beyond the usual point limit as both teams traded leads before Ramapo closed out the match at 26-24.

The Gothic Knights will next face Montclair State University on Thursday, October 2 at home for another NJAC matchup scheduled for 7:00 pm.
