New Jersey City University’s men’s basketball team lost to Stevens Institute of Technology 84-69 in a non-conference game on Wednesday at Canavan Arena. Despite the defeat, NJCU maintains an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series, although Stevens has won the last three matchups.
Bakhi Rogers-Robinson led NJCU with 25 points, shooting 10-of-20 from the field and adding five free throws and two rebounds over 35 minutes. Jayden Brown contributed 10 points, four steals, and two rebounds. Arterio Williams provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on efficient shooting. The Gothic Knights had four players scoring at least seven points and produced balanced offense in both halves, with 34 points before halftime and 35 after.
Stevens improved its record to 3-0 behind five players scoring at least 12 points each. Tommy Scholl, Kyle Maddison, and Harmehar Chhabra led the Ducks with 16 points apiece.
The first half saw NJCU keep pace early but fall behind as Stevens used three-point shots and transition play to build a double-digit lead. A late push by NJCU, including eight points from Isaiah Green along with defensive contributions, helped reduce the deficit before halftime. However, Stevens went into the break ahead by ten.
Stevens made a total of 12 three-pointers during the game while NJCU outscored them inside with a strong presence in the paint. Donovan Crawford anchored NJCU’s defense with seven rebounds and two blocks; Raymond Ezike added four points, four rebounds, and one block.
In the second half, Rogers-Robinson helped cut Stevens’ lead to six early on. Despite repeated efforts by NJCU to close the gap—including key mid-range shots—the Ducks answered back each time from beyond the arc and maintained their advantage through timely free throws.
NJCU will next play against Ramapo College on Tuesday, November 25 as they begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play on the road at 7:30 pm.
