The New Jersey City University baseball team lost to the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins, 10–6, at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex on March 26.
The game saw NJCU outhit the Dolphins, but defensive errors and timely hitting by Mount Saint Vincent made the difference. With this result, NJCU’s record stands at 6-7-1 while the Dolphins improve to 4-11.
Travis Evernham led NJCU with two runs batted in, going 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Daniel Kapsch added two hits and an RBI, while Ray Gelok contributed two doubles and an RBI. Brandon Piacenza also had a multi-hit game, and Frandi Yunior Mosquea Mesa recorded an RBI along with two stolen bases. Multiple players crossed home plate for NJCU during the contest.
On the mound for NJCU, Jeffrey Osbourne started and pitched two innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout. Yannid Narvaez was charged with the loss after allowing three runs over his appearance in relief. The bullpen included appearances from Derek Bauernschmidt, Brandon Fernandez, Nick Chirelli, and Dovid Solomon—who threw two hitless innings with three strikeouts.
Mount Saint Vincent’s offense was led by John Anthony Spanoudakis and Stephen Marinez who each drove in three runs; Zach Turko went 3-for-4 scoring five times for the visitors. Michael Iocco earned the win on four innings of relief work while Joseph Santos struck out four batters as starting pitcher.
After trailing early in the game, NJCU took a brief lead following a four-run rally in the fourth inning but could not hold it as Mount Saint Vincent responded quickly to tie then regain control through consistent situational hitting including multiple sacrifice flies throughout their at-bats.
NJCU will next play on Saturday against Kean University in a doubleheader that marks their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener.
