The New Jersey City University Gothic Knights lost to the Rowan University Profs, 22-5, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on April 24 at Rowan Baseball Field.
The result matters for both teams as it impacts their standings within the conference. The loss brings NJCU’s record to 10-24-1 overall and 2-14 in the NJAC, while Rowan improves to 27-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
Despite a season-high of 14 hits by NJCU, a pivotal fourth inning saw Rowan score ten runs, shifting momentum firmly in favor of the Profs. The Gothic Knights had initially rallied from an early deficit, tying the game at four runs each by the third inning and briefly taking a one-run lead in the fourth. However, that advantage was quickly erased as Rowan sent sixteen batters to the plate during their decisive rally.
Travis Evernham led NJCU offensively with four hits in four at-bats, adding an RBI and a stolen base that helped tie last year’s program record of 120 stolen bases for a season. Matthew Ferber contributed two hits along with a run scored and an RBI. On the mound, Collin Elam took his fifth loss after allowing seven runs over just over three innings pitched.
Rowan’s offense was led by Brayden Davis with four hits and three RBIs; Evan McCoach drove in four runs while scoring three times himself. Dane Samartino earned his first win of the season for Rowan as relief pitcher.
The game ended after eight innings due to darkness. NJCU is scheduled to play next against Rutgers-Camden on Sunday, April 26.
