Sophomore guard Meghan Gentile of New Jersey City University was named to the All-Met Division III women’s basketball honorable mention list, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association announced on April 13.
The All-Met distinction is a competitive postseason honor that spans 35 institutions and more than 500 student-athletes in the region. Honorees will be recognized at the Haggerty Awards dinner on April 23 in Tarrytown, New York, which is known as the nation’s longest-running media-administered college basketball awards program.
Gentile led her team in nearly every major statistical category during her sophomore year. She scored a team-high 462 points and averaged 20.1 points per game, leading the New Jersey Athletic Conference in scoring average. She also topped the conference in three-point field goals per game and free-throw percentage while ranking second for minutes played per game. Her shooting statistics included converting over thirty-two percent from three-point range and finishing fifth in field-goal percentage within the conference.
Despite NJCU’s overall record of nine wins and sixteen losses, Gentile emerged as one of the most productive guards in her conference by maintaining high efficiency both at the free-throw line and beyond the arc. In addition to this latest recognition, she earned D3hoops.com All-Region IV third team honors, was selected to the All-NJAC second team, and received weekly player honors from both NJAC and MBWA during December.
Other notable awards included Caroline Peper of New York University being named All-Met Player of the Year and NYU head coach Meg Barber receiving Coach of the Year honors.
