Legislation Would Establish Federal Task Force to Improve the Lives of Working Families Across America

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rob Menendez ton June 26 announced his introduction of the Working Families Task Force Act (H.R. 2614), which would establish a federal task force to improve the standard of living for working families in America. 

“I am proud to introduce the Working Families Task Force Act, which will ensure a whole-of-government approach to creating solutions to address affordability, child care, affordable housing, and the many challenges working families in New Jersey’s Eighth Congressional District and across the country are facing,” said Congressman Rob Menendez. “The task force will also develop policy recommendations to guide our work from day one when House Democrats take back the majority, enabling us to enact real solutions quickly. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to make our economy work for every American.”

The Working Families Task Force Act requires the Secretary of Labor, in consultation with the Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Education, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Treasury, Transportation, and Agriculture to establish an Interagency National Task Force on Working Families.

The task force will act to assess the effectiveness of current federal policies and programs in helping working families achieve an improved standard of living and quality of life, while developing policy recommendations to:

  • Address affordability challenges;
  • Improve access to quality jobs with livable wages and strong labor standards;
  • Expand affordable child care for all families;
  • Revise tax policies such as the child tax credit and earned income tax credit, that assist children and families;
  • Support home care and medical for seniors and families that need assistance;
  • Increase access to affordable housing;
  • Create more educational and work force training opportunities; and 
  • Provide financial literacy services
This legislation is co-sponsored by Congressmembers Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Chris Deluzio, (PA-17), Robert Garcia (CA-42), Val Hoyle (OR-4), Kevin Mullin (CA-15), Wiley Nickel (NC-13), Donald Norcross (NJ-1), Donald Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), Andrea Salinas (OR-6), and Jill Tokuda (HI-2).
